  • Hartenberg Riesling 2017

One of the world’s noble grape varieties. It has the smallest bunches and berries of all white varietals, thereby imparting immense flavour and concentration to the resultant wines. Added to this, is the distinction that few other white varietals are able to mature to their betterment, for decades, like the best global examples of Riesling are able to.

    TASTING NOTE
The bouquet displays beautiful elements of chalky, flint and minerally notes. The wine is juicy and opulent on palate entry and then a fine acidity arrives to provide a perfect foil to the inherent fruit “sweetness”.Despite being bone dry,the wine finishes with an appealing sweet/sour character, begging a second taste.

  • Hartenberg Merlot 2015

Hartenberg winemaker, Carl Shultz, won the Diners Club “Winemaker of the Year” award for the very fine 2004 Estate Merlot. Our 2005 vintage received the trophy for best Merlot in the World at the 2008 International Wine & Spirits Competition in London.
The vineyards were given a green harvest at verraision to ensure evenly ripe fruit. Picking was decided by tasting, thereby ensuring optimal ripeness. All grapes were handpicked and sorted in the vineyard, de-stemmed and lightly crushed. The grapes were cold-soaked and then inoculated with French-sourced yeast. The must was fermented between 24 and 26° Celsius and pumped over daily. An extended maceration took place, followed by fractional pressing. After settling, the wine went to French oak for malo-lactic fermentation.

    TASTING NOTES
Notes of dark plum, cherry, violets and star anise on the bouquet. The palate is silky on entry and then shows a seamless transition to an elegant mid-palate. The palate shows further red and black fruit, intermingled with spicy, cedary oak flavours. Tannins are fine grained and well integrated, allowing for a long, velvety finish.

    FOOD MATCHING
Merlot pairs well with a range of foods. Panko crumbed pork with mustard cream sauce, roasted tomato pasta or a juicy hamburger with cheddar cheese topping.

  • Hartenberg Shiraz 2016

An expression of what Hartenberg Estate is able to do with Shiraz in a younger, modern and upfront wine style. The Shiraz fruit is all Estate grown and includes younger parcels of Shiraz which are wonderfully expressive and offer earlier accessibility.

The label displays the original doorkeep on the historic doors of the Hartenberg underground facility, where the wine is matured prior to bottling. There is also a hidden/unspoken symbolism that the Doorkeeper Shiraz gatekeeps for the triumvirate of other Shiraz’s in the Hartenberg portfolio.

    TASTING NOTES
Beautiful cedary oak top notes on bouquet entry. Also aromas of cherry, dark chocolate and spice. The elegant palate is packed with berry fruits, more wood spice and fine dry tannins make for a long finish.

    FOOD MATCHING
Game, lamb and beef dishes of all kinds.
